Ed. originale di questo trattato di particolare importanza che oltre a svolgere funzione di manuale descrive anche i principi fisico chimici di base. Grazie alla galvanoplastica era possibile riprodurre in metallo un oggetto grazie a un processo di elettrolisi. Tra le varie applicazioni qui viene descritto il modo per riprodurre i dagherrotipi. Difatti Lerebours fu uno dei migliori ottici francesi, per primo costruì lenti superiori a quelle degli inglesi e molto si applico al miglioramento della neonata fotografia (nello stesso anno pubblica un saggio dedicata alla fotografia), in qualità di editore pubblicò le Excursions daguerriennes.
